Advanced Classical Tutu Project
Current Format: 4 Days
New for 2008, this very intense course is designed to take you all the way from initial concept to a complete and fully-decorated stage-ready Classical tutu. You will choose one of our own special designs to construct. The class incorporates our 1-Day Bodice Construction seminar, and 3 days of Advanced Classical tutu construction. | |

Claudia Says: "LISTEN UP PEOPLE! - 'cause This Is Important!" This is Very Much an 'Advanced' class, with VERY long hours. It's not 'play-time' - you must be motivated to WORK! There is a LOT of material to cover in a VERY short period of time, with a LOT of advanced stitching - you really need to know how to sew well. You absolutely CANNOT 'over-think' in this class - if you're the kind of person who needs to think slowly and carefully about what you're doing, then Don't Sign-Up For This Seminar! Think 'Project Runway'-style time constraints, but probably worse! BUT, you will learn a lot! And return to hearth and home with a fabulous costume! Tiaras/Headpieces: The class does not include Tiara or Headpiece instruction. BUT - please see the additional Tiara & Headpiece Options notes below for more information. Decorating:

Bodices:
If you prefer to substitute the 2-day Bodice Design, Patterning, and Construction seminar for the 1-Day Bodice Construction seminar,
there is a place on the Registration Form to note this.
Advanced Project Option #1 Choose One of Our "Easier" Designs The Snow Queen and Sugar Plum Fairy options are offered in several color variations - see the Additional Tutu and Bodice Details below for more info. The Don Quixote design is preset and CANNOT be changed. We provide all the necessary fabric, patterns, trims, decorations, and complete instructions. Please Note: the tutus shown are 'examples' only, are shown fully-decorated, and were constructed with the colors and trims available at that time - YOUR finished tutu will certainly not be an exact match!
Advanced Project Option #2 Choose a Design on the "Wild Side" Our 'Half & Half' concepts are a lot of fun to design and create, and are very exciting on stage! Let your imagination run loose, and explore color-combination and bodice options. We provide all the necessary fabric, patterns, and complete instructions. Please Note: this Option is VERY individualized. You MUST call or email Claudia to discuss color, fabric, and design. Also, the tutus shown are 'examples' only - YOUR finished tutu will certainly be very different! And finally, this tutu is supposed to be FUN! Don't turn it into a design or construction chore.
Advanced Project Option #3 These are Much More Advanced Designs - You Must Pre-Qualify with Claudia ! This option is available to anyone who has taken our Classical Tutu Construction seminar before OR anyone who already knows how to make a professional-quality classical tutu. If you have not taken our 1st year class, then you will need to send us a tutu that you have constructed (we will take care of it and send it back to you), OR send us detailed photographs and a letter of recommendation from a ballet company Director or Costume Shop Head. We provide all the necessary fabric, patterns, trims, decorations, and complete instructions.
Additional Tutu and Bodice Details All Tutu and Bodice options include all the fabrics, our pattern for a 'standard' Tutu Panty, and your choice of any of our Bodice patterns (the 6-piece and 8-piece are easiest, the 10-piece, 12-piece, and 16-piece are more difficult and time-consuming). The 'Don Quixote', 'White Swan', 'Black Swan', 'Firebird', Bluebird', and 'Le Corsaire' Tutu and Bodice designs and options have pre-set colors and CANNOT be changed. The 'Sugar Plum Fairy' and 'Snow Queen' Tutu and Bodice options offer several color choices:
Tiara & Headpiece Options Although this class does not include Tiara or Headpiece instruction, our Jeweled Tiaras Seminar offers several options to help you complete your performance-ready costume with a matching 'blow-em-away!' Tiara. For Snow Queen and Sugar Plum Fairy, we offer tiara designs in several co-ordinated color choices - please call or email us if you want our help in choosing a design to match your tutu choice. And our Firebird, Bluebird, and Black Swan tiara designs are perfect for those tutus. For the White Swan, Don Quixote, and Le Corsaire tutus, we offer traditional headpiece designs, not a tiara design. However, if you have a tiara design in mind for one of these roles, please review the Jeweled Tiaras Seminar options. The headpiece designs we offer are the same as those described in our Finishing Touches: Tutu Accessories mini-workshops, the Swan Queen Headpiece, Le Corsaire Headpiece, or Flowers & Jewels Headpiece (for Don Quixote). If you are staying, or registering for other Finishing Touches workshops, just register for the appropriate headpiece mini-workshop, or you can choose to construct your headpiece on the same evening as the Jeweled Tiaras seminar (but please note this on your registration form!). If you're constructing a Half & Half tutu, your tiara options are wide-ranging -
choose from any of our tiara-frame designs and select rhinestone colors to match your tutu color choices.

Decorating Options Although we provide the appropriate decorations (EXCEPT for the Half & Half Tutu), decorating your tutu MAY NOT be covered during the class - there just may not be time ... but, we will make sure you know what to do to complete your tutu! OR - if you stay for the Finishing Touches: Tutu Embellishment Workshop, we'll waive the registration fee, and you can finish your tutu in the workshop! Just register for the Finishing Touches: Tutu Embellishment Workshop, and select the 'taking the Advanced Tutu Project' option on the Registration Form. Return to Seminar Descriptions.
